AMATEUR CHAMPIONBHIP WIN FOR AN AUSTRALIAN (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, May 23 In the British amateur golf "championship at Troon the Australian, H. Hattersley, drove the first ball in a steady drizzle, which later grew worse. Hattersley defeated Aleo Hill, a member of the Walker Cup team of 1937, two up. The British Walker Cup player Kvie defeated Nettlefold Australia), 5 and 6; Ryan (Australia) defeated P. Lucas, two up; R. MacGregor defeated Rundle (Australia), 9 and 7; McKay (Australia) defeated MacDonald, 3 and 1. The title-holder, Sweeny, defeated J. Hordern. 4 and 2. Other winners included the Americans R. G. Smith, Ouimet, Goodman, Kocsis, Marvinwarcl and Ray Billows, and the Canadian champion Ross Somerville. all of whom scored impressive victories. Left-handed Championship Lucas (Cambridge University) is the best left-handed golfer in England. It has been humorously suggested that he should play a world’s left-handed championship against Nettlefold, whom the Daily Mail describes as the best left-handed in the world.
