MUNICIPAL BAND OFFICERS (Special to Times) MORRINSVILLE, Mondsy Keen interest on the part or bandsmen was a pleasing feature or the activities or the Morrinsville Municipal Band during the year Just concluded. The report presented at the annual meeting referred to the number of young players who bad joined up and the large attendances at weekly practices. The band secured good marks in all events at tbe South Auckland band contest at Thames, although it was not able to retain the C grade trophies It had won the previous year. Under the conductorshlp or Mr L. Buchan the band had continued to make good progress. The finances were in a satisfactory state, and the Instruments had been written down in value to £4O on the balance sheet. During the year the band earned £2B and received £26 in donations, besides a grant of £3O from the Morrinsville Borough Council. The election of a band executive committee resulted in the appointment of the following: Messrs R. J. Bird (chairman), L. Bucharf. A. Blanchett, J. Cottingharn (secretary) and A. Allatt (treasurer) together with the Mayor (Mr \\\ Hetherington) and Messrs B. Chapman. G. 1.. Burrnester and W. Morrlce, representing the Borough Council. Band officers were elected as follows: Bandmaster. Mr L. Buchan; sergeant, Mr A. Blanchett; corporal. Mr A. Allatt; lancecorporal, Mr 5. Redshaw; drum-major, Mr T. Large; joint librarians, Messrs F. Shoston and T. Hooker. Appreciation was recorded or the services or the retiring secretary. Mr G. G. Porter, and of the retiring representatives or the Borough Council on the committee. Presentation to Footballer Mr I.en Marshall was entertained by member? '*r the i nited Football Club at the home of Mr and Mrs r,. | ingard.
