MAN OVERBOARD
DROWNING FEARED FRUITLESS BEARCH MADE WEEK-END ACCIDENTS (By Telegraph.—Press Association} WELLINGTON, Sunday A member of the crew of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's steamer Mahia, Mr T. Quinn (27), fireman, is believed to have been drowned in the harbour last night in unusual circumstances. When the Mahia, which was bound for Auckland, was leaving the wharf, two of the vessel’s firemen were missing, but she went without them. Shortly after the pilot left the steamer In the fairway, Mr Quinn went overboard, it being understood that he said just before that he was not going to sea without his mates.
The ship stopped immediately. A boat was lowered and a search was carried out without result.
MOTOR-CAR SOMERSAULTB DRIVER'S FATAL INJURIES (By Telegrapn.—Press Association) DUNEDIN, Sunday When travelling along Bushey Road this morning about 1$ miles north of Palmerston a car skidded in some loose gravel and turned over three or four times, Mr F. L. Fox, secondhand dealer, of Dunedin, the driver, receiving severe head injuries, from which he died in the Dunedin Hospital to-night. FATAL HEAD INJURY (By Telegraph.—Press Association) PALMERSTON N„ Sunday The death occurred in hospital of Mr Leonard Kreegher, a middle-aged single man who resided in Feildlng. He was found in an outhouse at the back of a hotel in F.eilding unconscious from a severe Tiead Injury. It is thought by the police that he fell on the concrete.
DEATH ON GOLF LINKS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) DUNEDIN, Sunday An orchardist of Alexandra, Mr Vernon Aufrere Fenwick (55) died suddenly while playing golf on the Alexandra Jinks. He leaves a widow and three sons. FALL FROM 80AFF0LDINQ FOREMAN EXTENSIVELY INJURED (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WAIHI, Monday Mr Charles Pegram, foreman carpenter, engaged in the new Academy Theatre In course of construction, fell from the top storey scaffolding on Saturday afternoon on to the concrete base, sustaining terrible facial Injuries, a double fracture of the leg and general bodily injuries- He was conveyed to the Waihi Hospital. Mr Pegram, who Is over 50 years of age and married, is a resident of Auckland. Inquiry this morning as to his condition shows he is holding his own. FOOTBALLERB HURT TWO MEN IN HOSPITAL During the week-end three Waikato players were admitted to the Waikato Hospital as the result of injuries received at football. None, however, is In a serious condition. Russell Lang (23), of Mercer, received a fractured leg In a game at Mercer. An injury to the neck was suffered by Walter Ryan (22), a labourer, of Te Awamutu, while John Murray (19), of Marama Street, was admitted with a dislocated shoulder but was later discharged.
