BOBBY CALF INDUSTRY
TAHUNA FARMERS’ POOL NEW COMMITTEE FOR SEASON (Special to Times) MORRINSVILLE, Friday A decision to continue operations for a further year was made at the first annual meeting of the 5 Tahuna Farmers' Co-operative Bobby Calf Pool held in the Tahuna Hall, near Morrinsville, last evening. Mr G. IR. White presided over about 50 farmers from the Mangateparu, Tahuna, Hoe-o-tainui, Patetonga and Kaihere districts. A new committee for the 1938 season was elected as follows: — Messrs G. R. White (chairman), I. A. Barnett (Tahuna), R. G. Crocombe and E. B. Elliott (Hoe-o-tainui), O. Caldwell and B. A. Swney (Patetonga), A. Walters and Sawyer (Kaihere), 11. Wilcox and 11. S. Herbert (Mangateparu). It was decided to include the Kaihere district north of Patetonga in the pool's district, which now extends for 25 miles from Morrinsville to Kaihere. Votes of thanks were accorded the outgoing committee and also the secretary, Mr R. B. Westwater, of Morrinsville. Last season the Tahuna pool handled 2171 calves, and suppliers received a net realisation of 9s 9.2 d per calf. The chairman pointed out that the return to suppliers would have been higher had the pool been in operation in the early part of the season when higher prices were ruling for calf products. Only .04 per cent of the pool's calves had been condemned at the freezing works. The pool had combined with other co-operative pools in the Thames Valley for marketing products.
