ROWING DANCE
NQARUAWAHIA CLUB SUCCESSFUL EVENING PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES A popular and enjoyable dance was held in the Town Hall, Ngaruawahia, or. Thursday evening by the members of the Rowing Club. A feature of the dance was the novel scheme of decoration carried out In the hall and supper room. Large wheels of blue and white streamers, the club colours, were suspended overhead with festoons of ooloured balloons. In the' centre of the hall an electric model lighthouse was lit with coloured lights, while the stage was banked with ferns, green foliage and streamers, smaller model lighthouse's being placed each side. Crossed oars with N.R.C. in large silver block letters stood in the centre of the stage. The supper tables looked attractive with streamers of blue and white and vase's of white chrysanthemums. Phil Campell’s Orchestra, Hamilton, supplied greatly-appreciated music. Mr H. Stow was M.C. During the evening opportunity was taken to present trophies won during the season to the following:—
Opening day Trial Fours: N. McBurnew, L. Stubbing, W. Tarplatt, E. P. Mcßurney, F. Snowden (cox) ; Trial fours, \Y. Taylor, W. Morse, L. Bell, H. Stubbings, W. Johnson, cox ; cox with most points during season, F. Snowden, junior crew, with 3 wins and a second, heavy maiden crew, winners of Tui Cup. Mr W. Wilson, on behalf of the Rowing Club, spoke in appreciative terms of the assistance which the regatta association had given the club. Mr D. R. Welch, president of the association, replied and Mr H. D. Sampson the trophies and complimented the club upon the successful season.
A euchre tournament run In conjunction with the dance, was won by Mrs Powell and Mr Rennie.
