AUTUMN WEDDINGS

CEREMONY AT MATANQI YOUNG—SHAW The wedding took place at the Matangi Church, at noon on Wednesday, when Ruby Mary, second daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Shaw, “Wartle,” Matangi, was married to John Alexandra, only son of Mrs Young and the late Mr Young, of County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. C. L. French and Mrs Hicks played the wedding music. The church had been beautifully arranged by the members of the church oholr with bowls of autumn-shaded ! chrysanthemums and berries, and a j wedding bell hung over the bridal ! party. 1 The bride, who was given away by ; her father, looked charming. She wore S a frock of silvery satin beaute cut on j classical lines. The bodice fashioned I with a high neckline, which was flnlsh- | ed with a cowled collar ending in deep points at the back, was allied to a skirt simply cut to fall into a long, circular train. Tiny satin-covered buttons trimmed the frock at the back and the long sleeves which came to a point over the hands. Over this fell her beautiful veil of ivory embroidered tulle, held in place with a headdress of orange blossom and falling to form a second train. She carried a sheaf of cream chrysanthemums, rosebuds and maidenhair fern. The Attendants’ Frocks In attendance as bridesmaids were Miss Mavis Shaw and Miss Elsie Shaw, sister of the bride. They wore frocks of lime green embossed crepe, the tailored bodices having high necklines, finished with small collars. A row of tiny self-covered buttons ornamented the* front of the bodices, from tbe neck to the waistline, while the sleeves were elbow-length and the skirts gracefully flared. They wore’ green crinoline* hats and carried sheaves of autumn-shaded chrysanthemums, marigolds, and maidenhair fern. The bridegroom was attended by Mr Donald Falconer as best man, and Mr Douglas McDowell as groomsman. Messrs R. Shaw, \V. Shaw and K. Shaw were the ushers.

The Centreway Rooms, where a reception was held following the ceremony, was artistically decorated with flowers in autumn shades and a large’ wedding bell was suspended over the bridal table. The guests were received by Mrs' Shaw who was wearing a nigger brown tailored costume, with brown accessories and brown fur stole. She carried a posy of chrysanthemums and marigolds. She was assisted by her daughter, Mrs Alan Bryant, wearing a smart navy woollen suit with navy accessories. She carried a posy of gerberas and rosebuds. During the reception vocal solos were sung by Mrs J. Shaw (Opotiki), and Mrs A. R*. Batchelor of Cambridge. When Mr and Mrs Young left by car for the wedding trip, the bride travel- ! led in a bottle green tweed suit, with bottle green halo hat and accessories, j They will make their home in j Manawaru, Tc Arolia. Cards were enjoyed in the drawing room, which was cosy with a blazing fire. During the evening a delicious supper was served.

McGOUGAN —WALLACE The marriage was solemnised at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Cambridge, on Saturday, May 14, between j Netta, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs James Craig Wallace, Bruntwood, Cambridge, and Alexander Ralph, eldest son of Mr and Mrs A. F. McGougan, Taneatua. t The ceremony was performed by the Rev. H. W. Hitchcock, assisted by the Rev. H. J. Lilburn, of Hamilton East and the wedding music was played by ■ Miss R. Price. The bride and her father were met by Pipe Major Clothier and piped into the church. The bride looked charming in a gown of ivory satin cut on classical j lines. The bodice was folded into a high, pointed waistline with a Y-shaped neckline edged with narrow pleating. The sleeves were long and tight-fitting, finishing at the wrist with narrow pleating falling over the hand. The skirt was slim-fitting, falling at the back into a long, graceful train edged j with narrow pleating. Her veil of tulle, I embroidered with angelskin lace, was i caught to the head with a wreath of i orange blossom, falling away to a second train. She carried a crescent bouquet of white chrysanthemums and white and pale pink carnations. ’Maids’ Magnolia Lace Frocks The bride was attended by her sister Miss Nan Wallace and Miss Eunice McGougan, sister of the bridegroom, who were frocked alike in magnolia lace over satin. The frocks, slim-fit-ting to the hips, were pleated at the back and fell into fully-flared skirts relieved at the side front waistline with parma violet velvet. The' V-neck-line was finished with a roll collar and the long, tight sleeves fell to a point over the hands. They wore lints with crowns composed of shaded violet velvet flowp’rs with brims, of violet iu! caught at the back with a how of parma violet velvet ribbon and they carried shower bouquets of chrysanthemums and anemones in shades of Eileen Wallace’, niece of the bride, wore a full-length frock of cream frilled net over satin. ELMSLY—LOVEGROVE A pretty wedding was solemnised at - St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Claudelands, on the afternoon of April 23, when Doreen, second daughter of Mr and Mrs R. R. Lovegrove, Raglan, was married to Ronald George Kenneth, only son of Mr and Mrs G. A. Elmslv, of Hamilton. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. H. G. Gilbert and Mr E. H. Apthorp presided at the organ. The church was beautifully decorated with early autumn flowers in blue and pink tonings. The bride, who entered the church with her father, wore a lovely gown of deep ivory Italian satin, fashioned on Empire' lines. The bodice, gathered into a high waistline, was finished with a flat collar and a small posy of orange blossom. Tiny self-covered buttons trimmed the front of the frock from the neck to the hemline. The slim-fitting skirt fell gracefully into a long flared train, finished with deep scallops. The filmy tulle veil, which had been sent from London by the bride’s sister, fell from a novel halo of trellised satin and orange blossom and formed a second train. She carried a shower bouquet of cactus dahlias, chrysanthemums, roses and maidenhair fern.

She was attended by Miss Olive Young as bridesmaid, and Miss Yvonne Lovegrove, sister of the bride and Miss Ngaire Aikin, cousin of the bridegroom, as flower girls. The’y wore similiar frocks of delphinium blue stiffened net over satin, fashioned with slim-fitting bodicoe and finished with flat collars and tiny covered buttons down the centre o*f the back from the neck to the waistline - . The circular puff sleeves and full skirts were trimmed with graduated bands of self-toning ribbons, the waistlines being encircled with wide ribbon sashes. They wore matching hats of silk lace crinoline and carried posies of pink chrysanthcYmums, rose's, and maidenhair fern. The bridegroom was attended by his ccrusin, Mr lan Selby, as best man.

During the signing of the reglste'r an appropriate solo was sung by Mrs J. Woodward.

in shades of blue and pink. The guests : were received by Mrs Lovegrove mother of the bride, who was wearing [l a smart tailored costume in brown tonings with brown accessories and a fur 1 stole. She carried an autumn-shaded posy. The bridegroom’s mother was wearing a charming gown of grey Chantilly lace, and grey hat to tone. She carried a posy of purple-shaded flowers. The bride travelled in a smart grey fur fabric coat and matching toque, with navy accessories. Mr and Mrs Ronald Elmslv will make their home in Hamilton. SHAW —STRONG The marriage was solemnised at j St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, • Claudelands, on the •morning of Wed- i nesday, May 18, between Nellie, j daughter of Mrs and the late Mr John | Strong, of Te Pahu, and Ronald I Sutherland, youngest son of Mrs and j the late Mr Sutherland Shaw, of Te \ Atatu. The Rev. 11. G. Gilbert was , the officiating minister, and Mr E. 11. j Apthorp presided at the organ. The J church bad been beautifully arranged j with pink and white chrysanthemums, roses, and trailers of asparagus fern. The bride, who entered the church with her brother, Mr F. Strong, wore a graceful gown of ivory royal satin, the front panel being finely pleated, with an overdress of Chantilly lace cut on redingote style, the skirt falling to form a long train appliqued with satin flowers. The neckline was caught with a spray of orange blossom and her silk embossed tulle veil fell from a halo of pleated tulle and orange blossom. She carried a trailing shower bouquet of white chrysanthemums, roses and carnations ( with touches of pink-shaded lilies, as- j paragus and maidenhair fern.

She was attended by Miss Alison strong, sister of the bride, as bridesnaid, and Beverley Wright, niece of [he bride, was flowergirl. The jridesmaid wore a frock of shell pink self spotted silk net cut on redingote stvle with an underdress of satin. The bodice was fashioned with full, puff sleeves and finished at the neckline with a spray of flowers to tone. She wore on her* hair a shell pink crinoline halo finished with shaded velvet flow-

ers and carried a shower bouquet of pink roses, carnations, Iceland poppies and asparagus and maidenhair fern. The little flower-girl wore l frilled period frock of shell pink silk net over satin- The bodice was fashioned with full, puff sleeves and a Peter Pan collar with a small frill, and she wore on her hair a crinoline halo to match trimmed with shaded velvet flowers. She carried a posy of roses, carnations and maidenhair

Mr L. Rothwell (of Whatawhata) was best man. Messrs D. Shaw and E. Wright were ushers at the church. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Wattle Rooms which had been artistically arranged with flowers in autumn shades. The bride’s mother received the guests wearing a smart tailored suit in black and white pin stripe and a black fur felt hat with sequin mount. She carried a posy of lemon-shaded chrysanthemums and zinnias. Mrs Shaw was wearing a brown frock with gold relief, a model hat of brown peachbloom with a gold mount and a fur stole, and she carried a posy of chrysanthemums and marigolds in autumn

shades. When Mr and Mrs R. S. Shaw left by car for the wedding trip the bride travelled wearing a tailored suit of brown with a georgette blouse embroidered in autumn shades, brown peachbloom halo hat with a veil, fur stole, and accessories to tone.
