POLO TEAM HONOURED DINNER AND DANCE FUNCTION AT CAMBRIDGE Recently returned from a triumphant visit to Australia where they succeeded in winning the Australian Gold Cup, members of the New Zealand Polo Team were tendered a “Welcome Home" dinner and dance attended by over 200 people in the Cambridge Town Hall on Thursday evening. Effective and appropriate decorations were carried out about the hall and on tbe tables. On one wall bold black Is of i aper on which appeared the letters "N Z." were arranged about crossed polo slicks surmounted by fronds of punga fern a .the wall v. is festoi ned with wide blr.ek streamloaves of silver pa r. 1 »n the oi posite wall of the I apj l m mbers of photographs of polo teams and spectators at the recent tournament at Claudelands. Attractivo Decorations The stage, a bower of autumn fol- I iage, was decorated along the front with golden chrysanthemums intertwined with black and silver designed paper. Floral decorations on the t ibles were carried out with artistically i arranged bowls and troughs of flowers j in profusion. The blue of delphiniums an i forget-me-nots combined with scarlet gerberas and other colourful flowers and maidenhair fern on some tobies was offset by the golden and warm bronze shades of chrysanthemums and autumn foliage on other tables. Standing in a prominent position r.n the tabid in front of the players was the Australian Gold Cup. Here and there were placed small ! cardboard shields of the team’s badge, scarlet and gold candles completing the table decorations. These were the work of Miss Ruth Souter and Miss Audrey Nolan. • A comprehensive toast list was honoured, the toast of “The Ladies” being proposed by Mr L. R. Kay and replied to by Mr H. W. Upton. After the dinner the guests enjoyed dancing, musio \ being played by the Marina Dance Band.
