GUARANTEED PRICE
FARMERS’ RECOMMENDATIONS OPINIONS OF CONFERENCE (Special Reporter) AUCKLAND, Thursday Many remits that came up for the consideration of delegates at the annual Auckland Provincial Conference of the Farmers’ Union to-day dealt with the guaranteed price. Conference re-affirmed the principle of demanding an independent tribunal to determine the price from year to year. Such a tribunal, considered delegates, should consist of equal numbers of assessors appointed by the dairy industry and by the Government and should be presided over by a Judge of the Supreme Court. The tribunal should be set up immediately for the purpose of assessing the price for next season and further to assess the retrospective payment that should be paid to the industry because of th** increased costs imposed during the 1937-38 season. In a remit, that was carried unanimously. delegates recommended that the Dominion Conference outlie union should set up a small committee, of qualified persons to co-operate with the other organisations representing tlie dair> industry in the collection of evidence and to assist in presenting the dairy industry's rase before the proposed tribunal.
