ADDINGTON MARKETS AN EASING IN VALUES Fat cattle and fat sheep were in oversupply at the Addington market and there was an easing for both—sheep to a slight extend and cattle by up to 15s a head. Store Sheep.—A small entry of about 3500, about half wethers, wis forward. Wethers sold well at up to 22s Gd. but ewes which were old and lambs were not wanted. Fat Lambs.—There was a keen sale at. up to full schedule rates of 8d per lb. Fat Sheep.—A total of 5500 was penned and there was an easing of about Is a head. Best wethers made 30s to 335, tops to 355, good medium 26s to 295, light down to 19s, best ewes 22s to 245, tops to 28s, light 13s to 15s. Fat Cattle.—A total of 595 was penned. Values were again easier by 2s per 1001 b. Best beef made 32s to 345, good 29s to 31s, light down to 245. Fat Pigs—Good quality porkers sold well and other classes were easier. Prices were from 29s 6d to 59s 6d, the average price per lb being 6Jd to 7d. YARDINGS AT MATAMATA The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, report that at their fornightly stock sale at Matamata on Wednesday na exceptionally heavy yarding of all classes of cattle came forward. A good offering of cow and heifer beef sold under keen competition with values remaining firm. A heavy yarding of boner cows met with a ready sale, a total clearance resulting, prices being in excess of schedule rates. The advertised entry of Polled Angus and Polled Angus cross steers, offered on account of Mr P. McVerry elicited keen inquiry and sold well. There were a full yarding of fat pigs, and a light entry of stores and weaners. In the fat section the entry comprised a number of pens of good quality baconers for which competition was spirited throughout, prices remaining firm- Unfinished baconers and porkers sold fully up to recent quotations. Store pigs were slightly esaier. Medium prime cows made 8£ 2s to £8 9s; lighter, £7 5s to £7 16s; heavy fat Jersey cows, £6 5s to £7 Is 6d; lighter, £4 15s to £6; fat Jersey heifers, £5 15s to £6 17s 6d; lighter, £4 Us to £5 Us; heavy boner -cows, £4 2s to £4 16s; medium, £3 5s to £3 19s; lighter, £2 10s to £3 2s; heavy potter Jersey bulls to £9 ss; medium, £6 to £7 ss; lighter, £3 15s to £5 10s; 18 months’ Polled Angus cross steers to £5 14s; 18-months’ Polled Angus steers to £5 18s; 18-months’ Polled Angus steers, smaller to £4 19s; two-year Friesian steers, to £6. HIDES, SKINS AND TALLOW AUCKLAND, Wednesday A full bench of buyers, representative of both tanners and exporters, attended the fortnightly hide and skin sale held by Auckland brokers yesterday. There was practically no change in the market for country hides, but heavy ox abattoirs showed a rise in price. Values for tallow were down by 10s a ton. Prices for best grades were:— Hides.—Ox (abattoirs), heavy, 8d per lb.; medium, 73d; light, 5d to s|d; ox (country butchers), heavy, 6sd to 6id; medium, 6d: light, s&d; cow (abattoirs), heavy, sd; light to medium, 42d to sd; cow (country butchers), 4id; light- to medium, 4id; farmers’ (all weights), 3£d to 4£d; yearlings (abattoirs), heavy, 6d; light to medium, 6fd to 7d; second grade, 4|d to 5Jd; faulty and cut, 4d to 4id; calfskins, 31b. to 51b.. 7|d to Bid; 61b. to 811)., B|d to 9id; seconds and cut, 6id to 7d: slippy, 3d to sidSalted Sheepskins.
