ROTORUA GOLF TOURNEY MIBS J. DUNCAN SUCCESSFUL CUP TO MISS M. PEARCE * (Special to Times) ROTORUA, Friday For the second year in succession the open championship of the Rotorua Ladies’ Golf Club was won by Miss J. Duncan, Wanganui, when she defeated Mrs G. \V. Foote, Whangarei, yesterday afternoon, 7 and 5. The Arikikapakapa Cup, which is decided on handicap, was won by Miss M. Pearce, Wairarapa, who staged a great finish over the last three holes to win from Mrs T. Waddell, New Plymouth, on the 19th. Rain interfered with the semi-final and final play. Against the greater experience and confidence of Miss Duncan, Mrs Foote s play in the final was at times far below the standard of her earlier matches. Although she was set a hard task to offset her opponent's steady play and the early lead gained by Miss Duncan, she fought back gamely toward the end of the match. Although faced with a deficit of ■six down at the turn. Mrs Foote conIhrocd to light gamely and by greatlyimproved play she halved three holes in succession. Against the steady play of Miss Duncan, however, her task was a hopeless one, for Miss Duncan had only to play for the half to be eventually assured of victory.
