METHODIST WOMEN

MISSIONARY AUXILIARY BIRTHDAY The 11th birthday celebrations of the Te Awamutu Methodist Women’s Missionary Auxiliary were held in the Sunday school, where there was a large attendance. Representatives were present from Hamilton, Te Kuiti, Otorohanga, Te Mawhai and Kihikihi, the local P.W.M.U. and Anglican Auxiliary and the Salvation Army. The meeting opened with a hymn, a prayer by the Rev. Hall (Te Kuiti) and a Bible reading by the Rev. H. Spencer, a welcome to visiting friends being extended by the president, Mrs T. N. Olsen. A pianoforte duet was given by Mrs T. Nicholson and Master D. Whlton, a solo by Miss Walters (Otorohanga), and an elocutionary item by Miss M. Ross. Greetings from the auxiliaries were voiced, followed by a solo by Mrs Martin G. Sullivan, and a vocal duet by Mesdames D. G. Cruickshank and N. Middlebrook- The items were much enjoyed. Hardships Among Missionaries The speaker for the afternoon was Miss Rishworth, Dominion president of the Methodist Women's Missionary Union, who formed the first union in Te Awamutu eleven years ago. She paid a tribute to the work and leadership of the first president, the late Mrs B. McGechie. Miss Rishworth spoke of the mission work overseas and also among the Maori people; the hardships of the missionaries who faced separation from their families, disease, loneliness and the many difficulties, reminding members of the , part they could take by prayer and i help. Suggestions were given that evening meetings for the young be formed to stimulate their interest. The work among the Maori people was stressed by the speaker. A vote of thanks was accorded Miss Rishworth for her interesting address. Floral spray* were presented by Mrs | Spencer to Miss Rishworth and Mes- ' dames Olsen. Whitt on and Hammerlon.
