SOCIAL AT MATANGI

DELIGHTFUL PROGRAMME The Presbyterian church hall at Matangl xvas filled recently when a congregational social was held. An excellent programme of music and elocutionary items had been arranged by Mrs Myra Booth. Those who contributed vocal solos were Miss Johnneson and Messrs K. Priscott, J. Stephens and W. Trubshaw, the latter with Miss Elsie Shaw singing vocal duets. The accompanists were Misses A. Burton and K. Trubshaw. The other performers were Miss Burton, elocutionary items and Mrs C. French and Miss M. Shaw who played a pianoforte duet. At the conclusion of the entertainment the Rev. (;. L. French explained the purpose of the gathering, to eelehrate the freeinc from debt of the manse. Mr T. Thompson, session clerk, outlined the steps taken over a period of vears in financing and buildin:: the manse, after which the church treasurer. Mr J. McDowell, burned the deed of mold sage. This was followed bv the singing of the Doxology. The Rev. L. French asked Miss Ruby Shaw to accept on behalf of members of the combined Presbyterian ami Methodist congregations, tokover a 1 period of' years. Mr Young responded on her behalf. The -eninc of supper by the ladies and the smsing of " \uld Lane S: ne' brought the enjoyable evening to a close.
