AGRICULTURAL EXHIBIT
DISPLAY FOR WINTER SHOW A WIDE FIELD COVERED The exhibit arranged by the Department of Agriculture for this year’s Winter Show, from June 1 to June 9, is perhaps the most comprehensive venture of its kind ever undertaken by the department and, covering a particularly wide field, it should be of inestimable value to the farmers of the Waikato. The stall will be divided into eight divisions, each containing a wealth of instructive material. On the Erst section, under the heading of "Fields Division," will be seen the seed mixtures recommended for permanent pastures in the Waikato and the methods of establishing paspalum, with special reference to the effect of varying rates of sowing. The effect of clovers in the pasture will also be demonstrated together with the various strains of clover and ryegrass. The response to pasture top-dressing with phosphates, lime and potash of the Waikato soil will be indicated in addition to the pasture response to various methods of grazing. Farmers will also find great interest in a collection of the most common weeds to be found in their district. The horticulture stand will be divided into Hire* sections, namely autumn, winter and spring and summer combined. In the appropriate sections instruction will be given upon such matters as disease control, pruning, shelter trees, bush fruits, fruit standardisation, packing, planting, manuring, cultivation, grafting, cover crops, budding and the by-products of the fruit industry. Testing for Mastitis The methods of testing for mastitis will be shown on another stall, while honey grading and bee-keeping will be dealt with in the apiary section. The Journal of Agriculture will be displayed and an opportunity will be afforded farmers to book their subscriptions. The conditions of entry for boys to Flock Huse will also be included and prospective entrants will be able to enrol at the stand.
