WEDDINGS
BOWDEN—LUXTON A pretty wedding was solemnised in the Waitoa Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 11, when Edith Muriel, second daughter of Mr and Mrs A. J. Luxt >n, of Waitoa, was married to Gordon Richard, second son of Mr and Mrs A. Bowden, of Palmerston North. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. C. J. Luxton, of Whakatane, cousin of the bride, and the wedding music was played by the bride’s sister. Miss Joan Luxton. The church had been decorated in the bridal colour scheme by friends of the bride. The bride, who entered the church with her father, wore a lovely gown of ivory angelskin lace over charineuse satin, fashioned on princess lines. The corsage was softly folded in front and finished in a high neckline. The long, bell-shaped sleeves were pleated at the slioulderline and Ilnished with a lacc mfile over the hand. The skirt fell from a closely-fitting, high, waistline to a long, flowing train. Her veil was of ivory embroidered tulle and was held In place with a headdress of orange blossom to form a second train. The bride carried a sheaf of chrysanthemums, roses, gladioli and paper whites, with asparagus and maidenhair fern. In attendance as bridesmaids were
Misses Myra, Doreen, and Pat Luxton, sisters of the bride. They wore charming frocks of blue, green, and pink respectively, fashioned of angelskin lace over charmeuse satin. They were cut on princess lines with high cowled necklines and fastened with diamante clasps. On their hair they wore circlets of flowers fastened to the back of the head with a fan of Ivory tulle, and they carried bouquets of flowers in blue, green and pink toning*. The bridegroom was attended. by Mr Theodore Hallen as best man. The Waitoa Hall where a reception was held following the ceremony had been artistically decorated in the bridal colour scheme. The guests were received by Mrs Luxton, mother of the bride, who was wearing a frock of black lacc inset with crinkled erepe gconrefte, a black velour hat, relieved with white, and a fur slole. She carried a posy of autumn-tinted berries and leaves. The bridegroom’s mother's navy costume was worn with a hat to match and she carried a posy of autumn-tinted flowers and berries. During the reception items were given J»y Miss A. Ferguson, solo. Miss Ferguson and Mr R. Hallen, duet, and Miss M. Johnson, elocutionary items. The bride travelled in a smart costume of nigger brown worn with a fur stole, the gift of the bridegroom, a brown velour hat and accessories to matchTheir future home will be in Wellington. BUTTERWORTH—LAWSON A picturesque wedding was celebrated at St. Matthew’s Ghurch, Alorrinsville, on Saturday, when Olive Christina, youngest daughter of Mrs * M. E. and the late Mr John Lawson, . of Lincoln Street, was married to John I Benjamin, only son of Mr and Mrs Butterworth, of Te Rore. The Rev. M. Sullivan, of Te Awamutu, officiated, and the wedding music was played by Mrs Sullivan. The bride, who entered the church with her brother, Mr E. Lawson, wore a beautiful gown of ivory embossed lily lace cut on slim-fitting, classical lines. The corsage was high-waisted and fashioned with a heart-shaped neckline, the skirt falling in soft folds to a long, fan-shaped train. Her veil of cream tulle was appliqued in each corner with cream satin flowers and was held to the head with a halo of orange blossoms. She carried a trailing shower bouquet of white orchids, roses and carnations. Mrs J- Thomson attended the bride as matron-of-honour, wearing a gown of peach pink rippled chiffon, appliqued with violet bloom flowers over deeper pink taffeta. A shoulder-length veil of violet bloom trimmed with sequins was attached to the head with a halo of . velvet flowers. The bridesmaid, Miss Thirza Butterworth, wore a gown of violet bloom ripple chiffon, appliqued with peach pink flowers, over a deeper shade of violet taffeta. The shoulder-length veil was of peach pink bloom which was also trimmed with sequins and attached with a halo of velvet flowers. Each carried a beautiful shower bouquet of pink and mauve carnations, roses, nerines and maidenhair fern. Mr James Thomson attended the bridegroom as best man and Mr P. Scriven was groomsman. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Masonic Ilall, which was artistically decorated with masses of pink and mauve flowers with streamers to match. To receive her guests Mrs Lawson wore an ensemble of bottle green crepe with matching hat and accessories. She carried a bouquet of autumn-tinted flowers and berries. Mrs J. Butterworth, mother of the bridegroom, wore an ensemble of navy blue with a navy hat and carried a bouquet- of autumn flowers. The invited guests were:—Mr Oates (Waliaroa), Mr and Mrs F. XV. BENT —HANSARD The marriage was solemnised in St. Peter s Church, Wellington, at noon on Saturday, May 5, between Iris Maia, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. A. Hansard, of Vivian Street, Wellington, and Eric, eldest son of Mr and Mrs H. Bent, of Te Awamutu. The Rev. Bates was the officiating minister. The bride, who entered the church with her father, wore a gown of whit° ponyskin taffeta cut on Empire lines. The full flared skirt was allied to a high necked bodice, finished with a Medici collar ’of stiffened stitched taffeta and buttoned to the waistline with silver buttons. The sleeves were buttoned from the elbow to the wrist with silver buttons. She wore a long embroidered tulle veil, falling from a tiny wreath of orange blossom to form a long train and she carried a bouquet of irises, cyclamens, waterlilies and narcissus. She was attended by her sister Miss Mary Hansard as bridesmaid, who wore a frock of powder blue ponyskin taffeta, cut on Empire lines. On her hair she wore a short shoulder-length veil of stiffened tulle and carried a bouquet of rose pink carnations, irises and maidenhair fern. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr Harry Bent, as best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Royal Oak Hotel, where the mother of the bride received the guests wearing a navy tailored coat with a ballibuntal straw hat to tone. She carried a posy of mauve asters. Mrs Bent wore a black and white pinstripe costume, fur stole and velour hat and carried a posy of asters to tone. When Mr and Mrs E. Bent left by car for the wedding trip the bride travelled wearing a navy and white fur spotted suit with pleated front, astrachan coat, and navy Glengarry cap with navy accessories. They will make their home in Karokonul.
