FARMERS’ DEBATE
COMMODITY COUNCILS MR GOODFELLOW’S VIEW (Special Reporter) AUCKLAND, Tuesday A debate in which the principal participants were Mr W. Goodfellow. managing-director of Amalgamated Dairies, and Mr 11. O. Mellsop, provincial president of the Farmers’ Union, on the recent Producers' Conference at Sydney, took’place at the provincial conference of the Farmers’ Union yesterday. Mr Goodfellow opposed the establishment of commodity councils, but the action of the New Zealand delegates in supporting this procedure was defended by Messrs W. W. Finally the following motion was carried: " The ratification by the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union of the proposals brought down by the Primary Producers’ Conference shall not be held to attach or apply to any particular industry until or unless that industry shall signify its approval."
