GIFT EVENING FOR BRIDE-TO-BE An enjoyable gift evening was tendered Miss Netta Wallace, whose marriage took place on Saturday, by a large number of Hautapu and Bruntwood residents In the Hautapu HallThe hall looked very gay with bowls of autumn flowers. Mesdames Hollis, Miss Jean McLeod and Miss Lily Bone gave musical items which were much enjoyed. Miss Heather Andrew was the accompanist and Mr J. Morrlss provided the dance music. Mr N. Perry asked Miss Wallace to accept the large number of gift parcels. Mr R. McGougan replied on behalf of Miss Wallace. The guest-of-honour was wearing a frock of wine crepe soie. * Among those present were:—Mesdames N. Perry, V. Hollis, S. Holmes, T. Wallace, C. Buttimore, Morriss, D. McMillan, J. PARENTS’ AFTERNOON At the Hautapu School on Thursday afternoon a parents’ afternoon was spent for the twofold purpose of farewelling Miss Anderson, the assistant teacher who has left to take up her duties in the Auckland district, and of making a presentation to Mr and Mrs Dunning, who have been associated with the school committee for some years. Several items were contributed by the children, and songs were given by Miss V. Appleby and Mr N. Wallace. Bouquets were presented by little Dawn Hooker and Rona Cartmill to Miss Anderson and Mrs Dunning. Mr G. Watt, chairman of the committee, spoke eulogistically of the work done by Miss Anderson and Mr and Mrs Dunning. Presentations were made to the three guests-of-honour. Miss E. Bourke, on behalf of the Hautapu Tennis Club, of which Miss Anderson is a member, spoke of the loss Miss Anderson’s departure would be to the club, and a presentation was made on behalf of the club. Afternoon tea was then served.
NATIONAL PARTY DANCE An enjoyable dance was held in the Fencourt Hall recently by the committee of the Fencourt and Te Miro branches of the National Party. Music was supplied by the Marina Band, and Mr Keyte was M.C. Among those present were:—Mesdames M. -Keyte, wearing black embossed satin; R. Wattam, delphinium blue lace; J- Beet (Pirongia), floral crepe de chine; Campbell-Smith, black and white patterned crepe; M. Burns, black embossed satin; Y. O'Keefe, black georgette; R. Kidd, black crepe; J. Leaning, floral crepe de chine; Rendell, brown marocain; Muirhead, wine cloque; Rollv Kidd, blue marocain; Wiley, floral crepe; R. Beange, black and floral crepe; E. Buttimore, marina green net over satin; F. Watt, black georgette. Misses Ethel James (Coromandel), checked organdie; Barbara Bamford, blue marocain; Nancy Christie, blue waterwave taffeta; Jean Hawkins, blue floral dimity; Bessie Keyte, cherry chiffon: Noeline Smith, tulip patterned magnolia satin; Effle Burns, daffodil georgette: Margaret Elliott, buttercup taffeta; Peggy Hall, gold satin; Mary Leaning, black georgette; Eileen O’Keefe, waterlily green taffeta and silver lame.
