BRIDES-TO-BE HONOURED
KITCHEN PARTY AT MATANGI Miss Ruby Shaw end Mr Jack Young, who are shortly to be married, were tendered a kitchen evening by their friends in the Matangi Hall recently. Miss Shaw and Mr Young have taken a keen interest in the activities of the district. Miss Shaw was a popular member of the hockey team, and she and Mr Young were members of the hall social committee. The hall, which was filled, was beautifully decorated with greenery and autumn flowers. Dancing was enjoyed, excellent muslo being played by Clayton’s orchestra. Mr D. Faulkner was M.C., and a novelty dance was won by Mrs J. Wallace and Mr I. Hinton. Vocal solcrs by Mrs Batchelor, of Cambridge, Messrs Ilicks and W. Trubshaw were much appreciated. Mrs Hicks and Miss Kath Trubshaw were the accompanists. Cards, arranged by Mrs Jamieson, were enjoyed in the supper-room, which was made cosy with a blazing fire- The winners w-ere Mesdames Turner and Jamieson.
During the evening Miss Shaw was presented with a bouquet by Mrs Swann, and Mr Thompson on behalf of those present asked Miss Shaw and Mr Young to accept the large number of gift parcels. He made eulogistic reference to the help they had given the district. Mr Young suitably replied. Musical honours were then accorded them. Those present were:—Mesdames J. Shaw, E. KITCHEN EVENING A pleasant evening was spent at the Okoroire Railway School in honour of Miss Mavis Tyrrell, whose marriage took place on Friday. The evening was spent with dancing and games.
During the evening Mr T. Mackei expressed the good wishes of thosi present and asked the gue6t-of-hon-our to accept the many gift parcels. On behalf ol’ the Tenuis Club, of which Miss Tyrrell was a prominent member, Mr Macken presented her with a handsome teaset. Mr Alai Begbie suitably replied. Miss Tyrrell was wearing a tomatl spotted taffeta frock. Those present were:—Mesdamfs V. Tyrrell, C. Tyrrell, T. Macken, A. Watson, J. Brown, Julien, H. Cranford, Deadman, L. GIFT EVENING IN HONOUR OF MISS N. SORENSEN Miss Norma Sorensen, who is to be married shortly, was the guest-of-honour at a delightful kitchen evening arranged by the Frankton Old Girin* Basketball Club and held at the home of the captain. Miss G. Barlow. A pleasant evening was spent, during which competitions and community singing were enjoyed. The winners of the competitions were Mrs IM. Green, Miss J. Fitzgerald und Miti L. Woods. Miss G. Barlow received the guests wearing a fawn and brown cloq e frock. The guest-of-honour s wearing salmon pink romaine and la<" . Miss G. Barlow, on behalf of t! 3 basketball team, eulogised Miss Soi - ensen’s services and asked her to opei the many gilt, parcels, with the good wishes of all those present. Mr B.
