COMPETITIONS CONTINUED WANDERERB DEFEAT ROVERB LOWER GRADE FIXTURES Wanderers continued in winning vein on Saturday at beddon Park when they defeated Rovers by four goals to nil. The fTeld was in good order; the standard of play was an improvement on that witnessed last week. Junior and intermediate games were also decided. The senior teams lined out as follows : Wanderers.—Webster. McLean. Jim Fisher, Clarkson, Caldwell, John Fisher, C. Crabb, J. Stewart, J. McCall, Robertson, Dave Crabb. Rovers—Raven, Clark, Rogers, Humphries, J. Crabb, Raddock, Young, Farr, Doug. Crabb, Schonau, Moore. With only four Rovers on the field at the scheduled starting time, Wanderers took up the early attack, but several efforts at goal failed. Play reverted quickly to the other end, but Webster was safe and cleared from a corner. Schonau sent Moore away but Caldwell was too strong and broke up the attack. However, more determined efforts had Wanderers on their back-line for a time, but the defence proved their worth. An exchange of long kicks caused fortunes to flunctuate for a time. However, Wanderers drew first biood when, taking possession near Rovers’ goal, Robertson drove the ball past Raven, who misjudged the shot.—Wanderers 1, Rovers 0. Webster's Bound Defence

Once again Wanderers turned defence into attack, but the opposing defenders were not to be caught napping again. Two or three shots were sent to Webster and an effort was also made to drive him into his own goal while tn possession. How rever, the ’keeper was sound and sent his team on the run again. Clarkson and Farr had a short duel in midfield, but although the Wanderers’ player gained possession Webster was soon called on again. Clarkson instituted a bright attack and Stew-art took up the running, sending the ball on to C. Crabb. Clark was sound on defence, however, and did not give Crabb a chance to get away. Taking possession close into Rovers’ goal, McCall drove hard, but Raven turned the ball over the bar. Another forward movement from his own territory was Initiated by Clarkson and after gaining a good deal of ground he passe'd on to Stewart. The latter player sent the ball to McCall, who drove hard at goal. The ball rebounded from the upright, but McCall w’as there again and found the net with hi* second shot-—Wanderers 2, Rovers 0. Good Chance Missed A series of long kicks took Rovers within striking distance, but Young spoilt a good chance when, with no one hut the goalkeeper to heat, he sent, the ball high over the bar. Solid attacks by C. Crabb kept Rovevrs’ defence on the alert, but Clark was sound and did not miss much. Caldwell went close with a hard shot but the ball struck the crossbar, bouncing straight down and allowing Raven to clear. Again Rovers w-orked their w*ay down-field but again indiscriminate kicking cost them goaling opportunities. In any case Webster showed a safe pair of hands and did not give the attackers any latitude. After a long period during which Wanderers had the greater share of the attack, half-time came without alteration to the score— Wanderers 2 Rovers 0 At the start of the second spell play fluctuated for a time, but Wanderers soon settled down to a solid attack. Raven was kept busy for a while and had an anxious few’ minutes. Dave Crabb sent across a pretty shot from the line, but the ’keeper managed to clear in the face of a hot attack. Steady attacks were coming from Caldwell, but his goal shots were Inaccurate and he sent the hall high over the bar on several occasions. Webster was herd pressed but he was too sound for the attackers and sent them away time after time. Wanderers' Third Goal Strenuous efforts to add to their points were made by Wanderers, who kept Rovers penned up in front of their own goal-mouth. Raven was called on several times in quick succession, but a penalty allowed Rovers to clear and carry the play into Wanderers’ territory. They held it there for a while, hut Wanderers’ forward line soon commenced another invasion and McCall completed the movement by driving the ball into the hack of the net.—Wanderers 3, Rovers 0. Rovers were at a disadvantage with the sun in their eyes and this had a considerable effect on fheir attacks. Moore took possession in a handy position, hut the defence was too strong and did not. allow him a shot at goal. Fluctuating fortunes characterised the play for a time, and. taking possession in a handy position. C. •Crabb carried on to drive the ball hard past Raven. —Wanderers 4. Rovers 0. Although they set up a steady barrage against Wanderers’ defence, Rovers’ attackers were unable to bring their efforts to a successful conclusion and several chances went astray through faulty kicking. Tn the face of one oi their charges Webster left the goal and although they had three shots at an empty goal Rovers’ forwards were unable to open their account.
