SOW IMPORTED
BERKSHIRE FOR ‘BLYTHEWOOD’ Toward the end of last year Mr J. A. Russell, owner of the “ Blythewood” Stud, Palmerston North, completed the purchase in England of the prize-winning Berkshire sow “ Whipling Amelia 20th,” from Mr Stephen D. Player, of Fairford, Gloucestershire, whose herd has great show records in all the principal shows in England. “Whipling Amelia 20th,” farrowed January 7, 1937, took first prize at the R.A.S.E. shows and third prize at Herefordshire and Yorkshire shows in 1937. The sow was sired by “Leuton British Duke 2nd,” who also sired “WhipIng Lady 2nd,” winner of first prize and female championship at the R.A.S.E. show, 1937, and “Whipling Amelia 11th,” second at the R.A.S.E. show, 1936 and 1937.
This valuable importation farrowed whilst in Sydney quarantine, and the sow and litter of nine have just reached New Zealand, and have gone into twenty-eight days period of quarantine before being forwarded to the “Blythewood” Stud at Palmerston North.
From inspection already made Messrs. Dalgety understand this importation has met with Mr Russell’s complete approval.
