Children’s Verses
MUMMY AND DADDY My Daddy is big and my Daddy Is strong. I ride on his hack and he gallops along. My Daddy has pockets as full as can be With pencils and sweeties and pennies for me. My Mummy is pretty and dresses so nice, But, though she is big, she’s frightened of mice! She reads me fine stories and cuddles me tight And tucks all the bedclothes around me at night.
MY MOTHER Who sits in the porch in the sunlight Watching the crowds in the street, With her hair just tinged with silver, And a face that is passing sweet? My Mother. When I toss on my bed of pain And it hurts me to even laugh, Who is it soothes my fevered brow And proves a comforting staff? My Mother. In my time of sorrow and trouble When everything goes wrong, Whose is the heart I lean upon, That is hopeful, brave and strong? Mv Mother’s. Who is it lifts a loving face With e smile I hope never to miss, And welcomes with a strong embrace As her face I bend to kiss? My Mother. The most glorious heart is a loving heart. Has been since our flag unfurled; And right from the start and until we part. The heart, r love most in this world —ls my Mother’s.
