UNHAPPY MARRIAGES

PETITIONS FOR DIVORCE BUSY COURT AFTERNOON DECREES NISI GRANTED Undefended divorce petitions and petitions for the grant of orders for the restitution of conjugal rights were heard in the Supreme Court, Hamilton, yesterday afternoon, by the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers. On the ground of adultery, Charles William Evans McLeod (Mr G. J. Foy, Te Aroha) was granted a decree nisi against Vera Lillian McLeod. George Bryant was named a corespondent. Costs were also allowed against the latter and petitioner was granted interim custody of the children of the marriage. Petitioner stated in evidence that he had married respondent in 1932 in the Registrar’s office, Auckland. They had lived together until 1937, when respondent and co-respondent had gone off together, later being found living together as man and wife on a farm near Te Awamutu. Decrees nisi, on the ground of separation, were granted to petitioners in the following cases: Eveline Lillian Turbott (Mr S. B. Stevens, Auckland) v. Harold Bertram Turbott (with interim custody of the two children of the marriage); Jeanette Margaret Louisa Anne Fanning (Mr N. S. Johnson) v. Timothy John Fanning (with costs against respondent); Aileen Alice Bridger (Mr W. J. King) v. Roy Bridger (with interim custody of the two children); Elizabeth May Barber. (Mr H. J. McMullin) v. William James Barber. Restitution Orders Disobeyed. On the ground of disobedience of an order for the restitution of conjugal rights, decrees nisi were granted in the following cases: Charles George Hillier (Mr J. F. Strang) v. Gwendolen Margaret Hillier; John Charles Colson (Mr a. T. Gillies) v. Ida Colson (Mr W. J. King); Samuel David j Priest (Mr Strang) v. Decrees for the restitution of con- 1 jugal rights were granted to petition- I ers in the following cases: Henry Slater (Mr G. G. Bell, Matamata) v. Sarah Olive Slater; Magnus Herbert Koch (Mr R. W. Bennett) v. Lillian Elizabeth Koch; John Richard Clifton (Mr J. R. Fitz Gerald) v. Alinda Clifton.
