Maintenance Charges.—Two cases involving alleged non-payment of maintenance were heard by Mr G. K. Sinclair. J.P.. in the Hamilton Magistrate's Court to-day. Herbert Thomas Barnes 52), architect and carpenter, was charged with default in respect to a maintenance order made at Lower Hutt in 1931 and by consent was remanded to appear there on May 2G, bail being allowed on his own recognisance of £SO and one surety of £SO. Archibald Campbell Fox (49), labourer, arrested on warrant by Constable Hughes, of Stratford, was charged with failing to maintain his wife and two children and was remanded to appear on Monday. Bail was allowed at £SO and one surety of £SO.
Motor Number-plates.—Provision for one day of grace each way from the end of the licensing year in the affixing of motor-vehicle numberplates is contained in the Transport Bill which has been drafted ready for submission to Parliament. Information to this effect was received by the executive of the South Island Motor Union from the Minister for Transport. the Hon. R. Sernple. The Minister's letter emphasised that the days
of erace would be only for fixing the plates. The vehicle would have to be properly licensed and insured at the correct time. '
