Copyright CANBERRA, May 12 The New Zealand representatives to the Australian Agricultural Council, the Hon. W. Lee Martin. Minister of Agriculture, and Mr A. H. Cockayne. Director-General of Agriculture, were warmly welcomed to the council by the chairman, the acting-Minister of Agriculture. Mr A. G. Cameron. “ In inviting the New Zealand Government to send to th • meeting its Minister who is responsible for dealing with agricultural administration and agricultural questions,” said Mr Cameron. “ the Commonwealth Government did so because it realised that iu its approach to many agricultural problems. it bad much in common with the sister Dominion.” Exchange of Ideas Mr Cameron stressed the value of the exchange of information and ideas, and concluded: “ It is very appropriate, therefore, that a New Zealand Minister should be present at our council, and we are exceedingly glad to see him and bid him welcome.” An exchange of officers between Australia and New Zealand to ensure tifat mutual problems weVe treated on a common basis was advocated by Mr Lee Martin in his reply. He assured the meeting that New Zealand would be glad to compare notes with the Commonwealth on matters affecting the two Dominions. Mr Lee Martin told the conference that New Zealand would give the Australian authorities the fullest co-opera-tion regarding the importation of stud sheep from the Dominion. Further inquiries, however, would have to be made, particularly concerning the position of certain societies. Elimination of Inferior Btock The conference adopted a recommendation that the New Zealand Department of Agriculture should be asked to arrange for the elimination of inferior animals from exports to Australia. ensuring a supply of animals true to type. The matter will be further reviewed when the New Zealand authorities have completed their inquiries. Mr. Lee Martin and his colleagues were entertained at luncheon by the Prime Minister, Mr Lyons.
