SUCCESSFUL SALE

ALMADALE JERSEY STUD HIGHLY SATISFACTORY VALUES YOUNG STOCK IN KEEN REQUEST A tribute to the breeding programme followed at the well-known Almadale Jersey Stud, the property of Mr W. H. Miers, the keen competition shown by a large and representative bench of buyers at the complete dispersal sale of the stud at the Homestead, Rototuna, on Wednesday and yesterday, resulted in one of the most successful dispersals of Jersey cattle held in the Waikato for some time. Buyers came from North Auckland, Taranaki and Manawatu districts to compete for the high-class Almadale cattle which In the main were backed by good production records and show-ring performances and carried a wealth of imported blood. The price level established the first day was well maintained yesterday, prices for the young stock being particularly satisfactory, one yearling bull selling for the good figure of GOgns. During the two days practically the entire herd of 149 head was disposed of under the hammer. The sale was conducted by Messrs. Wright Stephcson and Company, with Mr C. E. Robertson, in the rostrum. Imported Bull Makes 67gns. A feature of yesterday’s sale was the auction of Mr Miers’ imported Dulls. The American importation, Rose Marie’s Duke, was not sold, but Irene’s Pioneer (Imp.), bred on the Island of Jersey, and a bull which has left many good ones in the Almadale Stud, found a buyer in Mr F. Ge'ck, of Te Kauwhata. By the great Pioneer of Oaklands and from Willonyx Dandy Girl, this 10-year-old bull was a good investment for the Te Kauwhata breeder at 67gns., the top price of yesterday’s sale. A particularly attractive yearling son of Irene’s Pioneer and the V.H.C. cow, Te Awa Winsome, in Almadale Warrior, a youngster bred in the purple in every respect, met a keen reception when ne entered the ring. The bidding resolved itself into a duel between the North Auckland breeder, Mr A. Worthington, and Mr F. Geek, the former securing the choi'ce young sire after he had silenced the Te Kauwhata breeder with a bid of GOgns. A feature of the sale over the two clays’ auction was the even nature of the sale, 25 entries of the offering selling over 30gns. and 50 over 20gns. Comparatively few entries were sold under lOgns. In view of the fact that the entire herd was submitted with a good proportion of yearling stock, this result must be considered very satisfactory.
