votes over his Labour opponent, Mr C. H. Chapman, M.P- This will be Mr Hislop’s fourth team of office. The result of the voting was as follows:
SOME LABOUR LOSBEB CITY AND SUBURBAN CHANGES SUCCESS OF CITIZENS’ TICKETS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday (The poll for the Wellington City Council resulted in the return of nine Citizens’ ticket candidates and six Labour members. The Citizens' ticket representation was increased by one. Nine sitting members of the Wellington Hospital Board were returned. Of 13 seats Labour secured seven, the same as on the old board, and the Citizens’ ticket six. Labour and the Citizens’ candidates have an equal strength in the city representation on the Wellington Harbour Board. New members are Sir Charles Norwood and'Mr W. Appleton, both Citizens’ candidates- Messrs R. McKeen and C. H. Chapman, M.'s P. (Labour) retained their scats. At the last election Labour won all four seats. Two Citizens' candidates, Messrs G. London and J. W. Andrews, are representatives of the combined suburban districts. The Labour Mayor of Petone, Mr A. Scholefield, was defeated by the Citizens’ candidate, Mr G. London, who comes from a pioneer family of the district. He is only 33 years of age. Citizens’ candidates won six of the nine seats on the Petone Borough Council. The Citizens* ticket had a victory at Lower Hutt, where the sitting Mayor, Mr J. W. Andrews, defeated his Labour opponent, Mr P. DowseThe Citizens’ ticket won six of the nine seats on the Borough Council. In Upper Hutt Mr P. Robertson (Labour) defeated the sitting Mayor, Mr A. J. McCurdy. There were two other candidates.
VETERAN PARLIAMENTARIAN TOPS WELLINGTON POLL FIVE WOMEN RETURNED (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday The veteran politician, Mr R. *A. Wright, M.P. (Citizens’ ticket) topped the City Council poll with 23,198 votes, two other Parliamentarians, Messrs R. McKeen and C. H. Chapman (both Labour) being next with 23,170 and 21,973 respectively. A new member, Mrs Knox Gilmer (Citizens’ ticket) topped the Hospital Board poll with 23,900. Then came Mr F. Castle (C) 22,746. Mrs R. Semple (L) 22,011 and Miss Amy Kane (€) 21.991. Five women candidates (two Citizens and three Labour) were elected to the Hospital Board- Mr McKeen (L) topped the Harbour Board poll with 2'2,550.
AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD HON. T. BLOODWORTH BEATEN (By Telegrapa -_~r>pr’qi to T!mr« ) AUCKLAND, Thursday In the elections for Auckland city members on the Auckland Harbour Board, the Hon. T. Bloodworth (Labour) was defeated and of the four successful candidates three are representatives of the Citizens’ ticket. The elected members were: *J. B. Donald (C), *J. Sayegh L), J. H. Kinnear (C), J. 11. Frater (C). ! There have been five new members ! elected to the Auckland Hospital 'Board I for the city. Four former members | for the area did not seek re-election, l The only sitting member defeated was Mrs A. G. Anderson (Labour). Labour will occupy three of the five seats on the board, the same as formerly. An address on “ Female Russia ” will be given by Mr E. Gluckman in 'the Frankfon Bowling Club's pavilion this evening to members of the Frankton branch ol the New Zealand Labour Party.
