SWANSON TRAGEDY
VERDICT OF MANSLAUGHTER SON REMANDED FOR SENTENCE (Special to Tunes) AUCKLAND, Thursday Francis Borgia Spensle'y (19), 'arm labourer, who stood trial on a charge of murdering his father, Robert Fitzroy Spensley at Swanson on February 7, was found guilty of manslaughter by the Jury in the Supreme Court yesterday. The' father's body was found near his house with two bullet holes in the skull on March 13. '* There is no evidence in this case,” said Mr Justice Fair in summing up. ”on which a Jury might say that there were reasonable grounds for the accused believing at the time this shot was fired that he could not otherwise protect himself from death or grievous bodily harm. He cou'.i have done so by moving out of the room.” The Jury was absent Just over three hours. Accused was remanded for sentence.
