May 10 The Mala and the Mercury, forming a composite machine, the latter carrying a full Atlantic load of 20,5001 b., separated successfully at an altitude of 3000 ft. during an Air Ministry test. The Mercury jettisoned 900 gallons of petrol, which would largely have been consumed on a trans-Atlantic flight, before alighting.
