A NEUTRAL ZONE BRITISH MASTERS’ REQUEST United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright LONDON, May 9 The masters of 13 British merchant vessels, including the Stancroft, Stanbrook and Greatend, anchored at Valencia, telegraphed the Foreign Office: “If British ships are to trade to Spain under the Non-Intervention Agreement, it is necessary that a neutral zone should be allotted in every harbour for the handling of legitimate cargo. “Attacks upon British shipping are ruthless and absolutely deliberate, the latest example being that of the Greatend, which is now sinking. The officers and crews of the British ships in the harbour, numbering 400. join in this protest, earnestly desiring immediate action.” A British petrol-laden merchantman, the Refast. left Gibraltar under sealed orders, presumably for a Spanish Government port, and two rebel armed trawlers began pursuit of her. The British destroyer Grafton went to her assistance, upon which the trawlers desisted.
