PATUMAHOE PIGGERIES THE HOME OF LARGE WHITES ' Ideally situated for the breeding: of the Large White strain, the Piggwv ies of Messrs. Raynes Bros., at Patumahoe, near Pukekohe, are, without doubt, one of the model Piggeries in the South Auckland Province. It is here that type, production and constitution are most prominent. The stud boar “ Waione Puss Moth,” and the stud sow “ Waione Attendant,” havo produced prize-winning progeny whilst the parents themselves have secured many prizes in the show rings, from which the former has now been retired Mr Hollings, manager of the Kaikohe Piggeries, Ltd., writing on Marcl 26, 1937, forwarded an unsolicited testimonial testifying to the excellence of the young boars that had been bred from Puss Moth, one, “ Patumahoe Erination” having produced over 600 pigs, his outstanding constitutior being invariably transmitted to his progeny which were remarkably quid: growing and of splendid conformation. Incidentally, this boar annexed first; prize in the Large White class and also champion boar of all breeds. Litter?, produced by a full brother of Erination were equally as good. Mr Holling? said he cannot speak too highly of the litters sired by boars which are tho progeny of Puss Moth, not only from the point of view of the conformation of the young boars which have been so successful in the show rings At the recent Whangarei Show the progeny of Puss Moth were remarkably successful as was Puss Moth himself. Mr Hollings said that the bes; indication of what he thought of the stock of Puss Moth was that he ha< 120 breeding sows and 6 boars, 4 of which were served by Puss Mot! and one is a half-brother to Puss Moth and directly descended from thi grandsire of Puss Moth, namely Taranaki Canadian Oliver. Practically th< whole of our next season’s litters—something over 1400 pigs—he concluded will be sired by progeny of Puss Moth. On visiting the farm of Messrs. Raynes Brothers a week ago the writei was shown many letters from Mr Hollings, and other farmers, expressing complete satisfaction at the wonderful results obtained from the pigs, oj which Waione Puss Moth was the sire. What further proof is needed Constitution, type, production and performance are features of the Patumahoe Piggeries, where a cordial welcome awaits you.
