MALTA AND GIBRALTAR OFFICIAL VISIT OF INSPECTION INLAND DEFENCES IMPROVED % iOfficial Wireless') RUGBY, May 7 During the Whitsun recess, the Parliamentary and Financial Secretary to the Admiralty, Mr Geoffrey H. Shakespeare, will pay official visits of inspection to Malta and Gibraltar. The Secretary of State for War, Mr Ij . llore-Bclisha, visited Malta last month on his way to Rome, and he stated then that the inland defences of the island were actively being improved.
SUPPLY OF BREN GUNS ORDERS PLACED IN CANADA STATEMENT BY MINISTER (Official Wireless) RUGBY, May 7 Speaking at a Primrose League demonstration the Minister for the Coordination of Defence, Sir Thomas inskip, announced that the British Government had placed orders for Bren machine-guns in Canada. This had been done to assist in the economical productiqn of Bren guns for the Canadian Government, and at the same time to provide duplicate sources of production lor the British Government.
