IS HE ALIVE? MR EDWARD ARMSTRONG TICKET TO PICTON BOUGHT WELLINGTON. Monday Between 1 and 2 p.m. to-dav a Mr E. Armstrong bought a ticket to Picton but this is not proof that he was the man who is believed to have been murdered. Opinion seems to favour the idea that the murder was committed in Wellington. Mrs Armstrong is a teacher at Clyde Quay School. One son is a student at the Training College. The house was locked up this morning. This afternoon the police removed a large quantity of bedding to police headquarters. LEAGUE OF NATIONS PROBLEM OF ABYSSINIA LONDON, May 8. On the eve of the meeting of the League of Nations council, where Abyssinia will be one of the most difficult problems, Ham Selassio has published a lengthy document, based on despatches from secret Abyssinian sources, asserting that the country is far from conquered throughout the west, north and south-west. The greater part of Abyssinia is still under Abyssinian chiefs. The resistance is more intensive and effective than at any time since the autumn of 1936. MAN'S VIOLENT CRIMES OVER SIX YEAHS IN GAUL PaCTWERSTON N., Monday. In the Supreme Court to-day William Charles Norman, who was found guilty of rape and assault so as to cause bodily harm, assault and also with escaping from custody, was sentenced to a total of six and a-half years’ imprisonment and declared an habitual criminal. The first-mentioned offences took place at Otaki. The prisoner escaped from a train while under police escort. Mr Justice Blair said the prisoner since 1922 had spent very little time out of gaol. He added that Norman had been found guilty of a frightful crime and he should order him a flogging.
