Shocking Murder
MUTILATED BODY FLOATING IN A SUITCASE CREW'B TRAGIC DIBCOVERY (By Telegraph—-Press Association) BLENHEIM, Saturday The ship’s crew engaged on painting the stern of the steamer Pakeaha at Plcton Wharf at noon to-day made a tragic discovery when they noticed a fibre suitcase of ordinary size floating In the water underneath the wharf. On opening the case It was seen that It contained a human body, terribly mutilated and cut In half. Apparently from the blood that was still oozing from the case It had not been dead more than 48 hours at least. The discovery was promptly handed on to the police and the inspector left Immediately from Nelson to take charge of Inquiries. It was expected he would arrive at Plcton about 2.30 p.mFATAL NEGLIGENCE MOTORIST CONVICTED FINE OF £SO IMPOSED (By Telegrapn.—press Association) AUCKLAND, Friday “ Taking all the circumstances together, I have come to the conclusion that I am not bound to send this young man to prison," sal-d His Honour, Mr Justice Callan, at the Supreme Court, in sentencing Alfred Robert Dougall Millen (21), a motor mechanic, who was found guilty with a recommendation to mercy on a charge of negligent driving, so as to cause the death of a cyclist. His Honour imposed a fine of £SO and suspended accused’s license for four years. He said he agreed entirely with the verdict of the jury.
