FARKWELL SOCIAL PRESENTATIONS TO RESIDENTS •me popularity of Mr and Mrs L. Bailey was evident by the large attendance at the farewell gathering tendered In Their honour in the Springdale Hall recently. The function took the form of a social and was spent In dancing. Interspersed wtth vocal Items by local artists. Music for the occasion was supplied by Miss J. Ryan plano-ac-cordlon . Mrs !.. Bailey was presented with a beautiful bouquet by little Helen CoombesMr TV. Nicholson, chairman, presented the guests-of-honour wtih a handsome chiming clock. Mrs Bailey was also presented with a toilet set on behalf of the residents. On behalf of the Sunday School committee and children. Mr J. Kelghtly presented Mrs Bailey with a silver cake-stand. Mr J. Lynch spoke on behalf of the Waitoa residents, and Mrs E. Palliser. representing the local Women s Institute, expressed regret at losing such a valued member. She presented Mrs Bailey with a beautiful vase as i token of appreciation. Mr H. A. Wagstaff also spoke on ehalf of the Sprindale Sports Club.

Mr and Mrs Bailey had been interest- j ed In all local activities, and would j be missed. Mr Bailey, in responding', remarked j that their stay in Springdale had been a happy one. Mrs Bailey also replied, expressing regret at her departure. Musical honours were then , accorded the guests. Supper was , served by the ladles, after which dancing was continued. Mr B. BABKETBALL CLUB ANNUAL MEETING HELD The Springdale Basketball Club : held its annual meeting recently In the local hall when a very large number of players and others Interested attended. The president, Mr W. Nicholson, read the annual report and balance- ■ \ sheet, and stated that the past year 1 had been a most successful one. The I financial position was very satisfactory.
