COMPLAINTS BY BRITONB VIOLENCE BY JAPANESE PROTEST TO GOVERNMENT (Omclai Wire ess) RUGBY. May 4 Questioned in the House of Commons about complaints by British residents in the International Settlement in Shanghai that incidents involving violence by the Japanese military authorities to ihe persons and properly of foreigners were of frequent occurrence, the Foreign Under-Secretarv, Mr R. A. Butler, said his attention had been drawn to this. He added that the British Ambassador at Tokio, Sir Robert Craigie, had made energetic representations to the Japanese Government, with which lie had instructions to take up all these matters urgently.
