The Czech Legation spokesman, discussing the prospects of a settlement with the Germans, said: "The Czech Government has no Intention of giving any minority a key to our fortresses.” He added that the Government is working unceasingly to build up the Czech Maginot line, which* has been made more vulnerable by the extension of the German frontier. Several lines of secondary defences are being constructed in Bohemia to protect war industries, which have been decentralised and moved inland to Moravia and Slovakia. “HEIL HITLER!” SIGN ON MOUNT VESUVIUB ITALY’S NAVAL MIGHT SHOWN RECEIVED BY THE KING United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright (Received May 6, 11.30 a.m.) NAPLES, May 5 A gigantic sign, “Heil Hitler!” on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, greeted Herr Hitler when ho had his first glimpse of the Bay of Naples while sitting in a car - beside King Victor Emanuel. Signor Mussolini is devoting the second day of Herr Hitler's visit to showing off Italy’s naval might. Naples stage-managed a most friendly welcome to Herr Hitler, who stepped from the train under canopies of Italian and German flags. He was greeted by the King and Crown Prince Umberto, and one thousand trumpeters mounted a stand shaped like a swastika and played "Deutschland Über Alles." Half a million Black Shirts kept back the excited crowds during a 40minute drive to the waterfront, through lavishly-decorated streets. Everyone seemed to have a swastika flag.
