SOCIAL AT ROTOTUNA
KNOX PRESBYTERIAN PARISH The Rototuna church hall was filled for the first of the winter series of socials in aid of the Knox Presbyterian parish funds. The Rev. H. J. Lilburn presided, and accompaniments were played by Mesdames McLachlan, McDonald, and Piper R. Matheson. The following programme was well received: —Orchestral overture, the McLachlan family; violin solos, Miss Celia McLachlan; Highland dances. Jean McLachlan; cello solos, Miss Yvonne McLachlan; Irish dances, Jean McLachlan; instrumental trios, Mrs McLachlan and Misses C. and Y. McLachlan; violin solos, Jean McLachlan. The items were interspersed with games and competitions, organised and controlled by Mr John Thompson. During the evening opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs P. Mathieson and to present them with a beautiful dinner service from the managers of the Knox parish and the* Rototuna residents. The Rev. H. J. Lilburn and the Messrs T. Martin Rototuna), T- Henderson (Horsham Downs), F. Williamson (Gordonton) and Charles Henderson (Knox) spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr and Mrs Mathieson. After the guests-of-honour had been accorded musical honours, Mr Mathieson suitably returned thanks. Mrs Mathieson, who was wearing lupin blue faille, was presented with bouquets by Marjory Hope and Jean Fullerton. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs George Clarke and B. Hayes Hamilton), and D. Bruce and A. H. Clement (Rototuna). The singing of “Auld Lang Syne" and the Doxology brought the evening to a close.
