ST- JOHN'S GIRLS’ CLUB The annual meeting of the St. John's Girls’ Club was held in the club recently. In the absence of the president., Mrs M. Sullivan, Miss Stella Empson took ihe chair. Mrs M. Sullivan, the president, and the five vice-pre-sidents, Mrs L. Teasdale, Mrs Morris. Miss L. Foche, Miss S. Empson and Miss Lorna Finch, were re-elect-ed. Miss Dorothy Jeffery was elected secretary in place of Miss Enid Palmer, and Miss Lorraine Cruickshank was re-elected treasurer. The committee was elected as follows: Misses G. Ryburn, Gypsy Garvey, Ailsa Gifford, Ruth Fusil, Phyllis North, 5. Parr and Lorna Potts. WOMEN'S AUXILIARY The monthly meeting of the St. John's Women's Auxiliary was held in the Parish Hall. The president. Mrs Downes, occupied the chair and the meeting was opened with the Lord's Prayer. Owing to the inclemency of the weather there was only a fair attendance of members. A -vote of sympathy was passed to Mrs H. Swarbrick in the loss of her mother. A vote of sympathy was also passed to Mrs Irwin in the loss of her grandchild-
Apologies for absence were re ceived from Mesdames Heath, Law Dunkley, BJuck. Montiflore.
The vicar, the Rev. Martin Sullivan. asked the support of the auxiliary to keep theftvoluntary daily religious exercises going in the schools. It was decided to send a recommendation to St*. John's Committee that the painting of the church be proceeded with as soon as possible. Mrs Jeffery asked if she could procure an altar cloth. Mrs Naylor offering to work it. KITCHEN EVENING LODGE MEMBER HONOURED The routine business at the fortnightly meeting of the Pride of Te Awamutu Lodge, U.A.0.D., was quickly disposed of. and a large number of members and friends assembled to honour Sister Elissa Steiner, who is to be married shortly. The meeting took the form of a kitchen evening. A large table contained an assortment of useful gifts from members. A handsome oak mantel clock was presented by the lodge members. Dancing, to an excellent orchestra, interspersed with other items, provided the entertainment. Song? by Past Arch Bro. F. Aldridge and a pianoforte duet by Mr and Mrs N. Winch were much appreciated, while a novelty was Swiss harmony and yodelling by the Steiner family. Sister Steiner opened the gifts, and thanked those present for their wishes. Bro. E. Steiner replied on behalf of Bro. w. Steiner, who was unable to be present.
