NEW MARKETS

WAIKATO CHILLED BEEF SUCCESS OF FIRST SHIPMENT ARRIVAL AT BRISTOL Such has been the favourable impression created by Dominion chilled beef in England that the market for the product is rapidly spreading and It is reported that there will be a ready market for New Zealand chilled beef in the West of England. The first shipment of Dominion chilled beef to arrive at Bristol was landed In perfect order and drew very favourable comment from the authorities who Inspected It. The shipment which was of an experimental nature consisted of 500 quarters and was of particular interest to Waikato producers as it was comprised entirely of chilled beef from this district. It was the opinion of those connected with the trade at Home that the shipment had been a complete success and augured well for a wider market for chilled beef from this country. The shipment was handled in England by Messrs Weddell and Co., who are acting as the distributors for the West 'Country, the beef being sent from Waikato by Messrs W. and R. Fletcher (New Zealand), Limited. High Price of Beef Although prices for beef throughout the Waikato are now getting too high to allow buyers for the chilled beef export trade to operate as freely as during the past few months, they are hoping that there will be enough cattle available to allow shipments to be maintained as the Importance of the regularity of shipments is fully recognised. Large numbers of ideal cattle have been sent from the Waikato during the past two months, but the next few weeks will probably see a reduction in the number shipped. Three shipments of chilled beef, however, will lave Auckland next week. The export season for lambs terminates next week when the last killings for the season will be made.
