SCHOOL FOR CLERGY
REFRESHER GATHERING WORK AT CAMBRIDGE A three-day refresher school for clergy of the Waikato Diocese concluded at St. Peter’s School. Cambridge, this week, when about sixteen were present. A celebration of Holy Communion was held each morning. The Bishop of Waikato, the Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrlngton. Canon J. L. A. Kyall, and the Rev. A. Hancock, were the celebrants. The Rev. A. H. Bott and the Rev. Small were organists. At 7 p.m. on Wednesday Mr H. C. Luscombe, organist at St. Peter’s School, gave & recital, several selections from Bach and Handel being included In the programme. A comprehensive survey of the Epistle to the Hebrews was given on the first morning by the Archdeacon of Waikato. Tuesday afternoon was free, whilst on Tuesday night the Bishop gave a lecture on Christian ethics. On Wednesday afternoon the Rev. A. Russell Allerton, of St. Thomas’, Auckland, gave a talk on the daily life and work of a priest. He opened with some trenchant remarks about the intellectual standard of New Zealand clergy. Wednesday morning, was an “ open forum.” Everybody contributed sometiling to the general discussion of such varied topics as bans of marriage, youth and the Church, mail-hag Sunday school, missionary problems, svnod reforms, and the Irish Prayer Book.
