HIGH PERCENTAGE
LAMBING IN WAIKATO FAVOURABLE CONDITIONS Extremely favourable conditions continue for lambing in the Waikato and indications are that the lambing percentage will constitute a record for this district. Comparatively little trouble has been experienced by farmers and a feature of the lambing to date has been the unusually. large number of twins. In some cases farmers report that they have had over 100 per cent, lambing, but lambing on the majority of properties has not finished and it will be several weeks before any accurate estimate of the percentage can be given. The heavy showers, followed by warm weather during the week had the effect of stimulating growth on top-dressed fields and young slock are benefiting from the nutritive qualities of the young grass. Seldom have dairy cows commenced the milking season in better condition for there was ample supplementary feed for* them throughout the winter while there was generally young grass available after calving.
