BOBBY CALF POOL SYSTEM

SUPPORTED BY FARMERS. MARKET IN Q ASSOCIATION'S PLAN REJECTION AT SPRINGDALE (Special to Times.) TE AROIIA, Friday. A public meeting at tbe Springdale Hall convened by tbe Pig Marketing Association wa* attended by over *OO intereated farmers. Mr H. O. Mellsop. president of the Auckland Provincial Farmers’ Union Executive presided, and addresses were given by Mr W. A. Phillip*, obelrman of directors of the Pig Marketing Association and Mr N\ W. liastinga, organiser for tbe association. Hr Phillips aatd tbe association bsd been forced to convene tbe meeting In order to defend itseir against tbe allegations and criticism that had been levelled against it by speakers at tbe bobby calf pool meeting three weeks ago. He declared that the statement that the association’s attitude had been outrageous and under -hand wa* a very serious one. and he could definitely say that they had never been guilty of such action*. It had never by policy or threal had any intention of ‘’breaking” the bobby cair pools a* alleged. The organiser denied emphatically that the carriers or the association had been Instructed to pick up calve* in the poo] area* They were Instructed to honour the pool tickets and only take calves when requested. The statement that he threat ened to convene meetings to break the pool* was another inaccuracy. What he had said was that unless he had a chance nr addre**tng the general meeting of farmer* Tor the purpose of laying the Pig Marketing Association’s new 'Cheme before them he would have to call small meetings of farmers in the districts concerned to acquaint them with It The allegation that he had said the association would be prepared to pav carriers 0d per mile to “pirate’* calves wa* also a complete mis-Interpretation of the facts. He complained that Mr R. A. Candy, after turning down the scheme submitted by the association for the handling of the calves had not followed the matter up in order to obtain more agreeable terms. Not Wholly Co-operative Mr R. A. Candy said the plan submitted wa* not wholly co-operative, and had therefore been turned down. The pool had not actually been derided upon then, but after the price fixing in the schedule at as Ad. they decided to commence operations at once. “ AH we **k t* to be left alone to run our own business in our own way.” said Mr Candy. "We will not Interfere with any of the pools working under the Pig Marketing Association. We only want a fair deal.” Mr F. M. moved the following resolution, which wa* carried: •* That the members of the Bobby Calf Pool have every conndence tn their executive, and that speaker* at the previous pool meeting have nothing to withdraw relative to statements made by them on that occasion."
