CARTAGE RATES
BCHEDULE APPROVED TE AWAMUTU FARMERS’ UNION (Special to Times.) TE AWAMUTU. Friday Approval was given at yesterday's meeting- of Hje Te Awamutu branch of the Farmers’ Union to the schedule of cartage rates in the country area surrounding Te Awamutu, as adopted last month J>y f a conference of master carriers ami the x Farmers’ Union, and forwarded to the r Auckland provincial executive as a guide . to negotiations in other districts. It was * stated that the agreement was for one g year, and farmers should abide by the J agreement. a The president, Mr .A. T. Bryant, said a the schedule had not yet been ratiUed by the Transport Authority, but the terms j were operative as from August 12. He c had been Informed that charges in the , Matamata district were lower than those f lin the Te Awainutu district. Mr D. H. Cavers commented that in the ( past year Tarmers bad paid some hundreds f or pounds too much Tor transport, and it ; was time an agreement was made and observed. Comment was made by other J members that some of the carriers were r not observing the sohedule, one member , saying that he was charged less than the . schedule rate. Mr G. T. Crawley commented that Mr Phelan, the Transport Authority, had made It clear that IT the farmers and carriers did not reach agreement he would adopt u schedule himself, as instructed by the Minister of Transport. The decision at Te Awamutu was therefore timely, and he thought it should be binding on both parlies, ir some items were not acceptI able, in practice, they could be reviewed a year hence. =■ j
