JAPAN’S AMBITIONS.
TERRITORY IN OHINA
POSITION OF EMPEROR
“To those who live outside China and Japan the latter’s ambitions appear to be territorial,” said, a visitor to Hamilton this morning when speaking to a Waikato Times reporter on the Sino-Japanese conilict. The speaker had spent over 30 years in the two countries, where he was engaged in | banking. He was in China during the last hostilities. Japan had control of Manchukuo and the Chinese considered It was their objective to place the Emperor of that state on the throne of China. The ruler was the sole heir to the throne and*the recent war directed his sympathies towards the Chinese. The speaker was stationed in Shanghai for. a number of years. He expressed surprise at China not bombing Tokio. as that city was only three hours flying distance from the Chinese coast. The Japanese were not particularly good airmen and it was in this sphere of warfare that the Chinese could strike back. Properly armed and led, the Chinese were excellent soldiers.
