TROUT AND SALMON?
NORTH CANTERBURY DIBTRICT DATES FIXED FOR SEASON (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday The opening of the trout fishing season and the salmon-fishing season In North Canterbury was set back more than a fortnight by the Council of the Acclimatisation Society last night. Several alternative proposals were dobated at length and finally rejected. The final decision was that the trout seasons in the rivers would open at midnight on October 15 next and end on April 18. Dates for the lakes \ve r e fixed at tlie same as last year, December 1 to April 30. The salmon fishing season will he the same as for trout. The size of fish was limited to 11 inches and the hag limit was fixed at 10. Mr C. 11. Lawrence opposed an extension of th* season for trout. The fish caught after the middle of April were seldom good for table use, r.e said. Many complaints had been man** of the scarcity of fish in the district rivers, and the fish should be given more lime to spawn.
