ADDINGTON MARKETB. RISE IN BWB HOGOETS, Values at Addington were steady, except for ewe hoggets, which rose 3s a head. Wether hoggets were also dearer by up to Is 6d. A better quality yarding came forward In the fat sheep and fat cattle section, and values remaine'd firm. Fat sheep: The entry was considerably smaller than last week, with a total of 5300, against 7000. Quality was bettor, because of the absence of heavy supplies of old wethers. All classes were Arm, with I appreciation for best quality young sheep. Values: Extra prime heavy wethers, to 45s 4d; prime, 36s to 40s; medium-weight, 32s to 355; ordinary, 27s 6d to 31s; light, to 275; extra prime heavy ewes, to 44s 4d; prime heavy, 29s Gd to 335: mediumweight, 26s Gd to 295; ordinary, 21s 8d to 25s 6d; light, 21s. Store sheep: The entry was approximately the same as last week’s, i although more young sheep were i penned. There was an active demand for good ewe hoggets, and these were | better by about 3s on last week, with i medium sorts about Is better. Culls j from a line from Cheviot made 32s 4d, | and tops made 36s Id. Two truck lots | went at 39s 4d. The best wether ' hogget sale was 2is 9d, and, taking quality into consideration, tills class showed an improvement of Is to Is Gd head. Ewes and lambs, which comprised a fair proportion of t lie total entry, had much the same sort of sale as last week’s, with a rather dragging demand, and no change in prices. A truck of two-tooth ewes which sold at 33s 6d were good buying. One truck of wethers put up, mostly eighttooth sheep, sold at 23s Gd. Spring iambs: There was keen competition for seven spring lambs yarded. Prices ranged between lid and Is Id per lb., the top price’ being 37s iOd. Fat catlie: There was an entry of 455, against 435 last week. Quality was considerably improved, and the offering of steers contained a bigger proportion than usual of well-flnishe'd handy-weights. The sale was a good ono throughout for anything prime, but for cows and plainer sorts In all classes was a slight easing, about 10s a head. Prlmest steers were a trifle firmer, top price being 1*24 17s Gd. Fat pigs: The entry in the pork section was again of a medium size', and an excellent sale resulted. Last week’s good prices were passed, the sale being the* best all round for many years. Choppers: A medium supply again met with keen competition. Baconers came forward In smaller numbers, and again the sale was excellent, prices being higher than those of last sale. Values: Choppers, £3 3s Gd to £5 8s 6d; light porkers, 34s Gd to 42s 6d; medium, 44s Gd to 49s Gd; large, 51s Gd to 58s 6d; extra heavy, 57s 6d to £3 7s Gd; average, 6 id to Bd. RATES AT WAIHOU The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, report having held their fortnightly stock sale at Waihou yesterday, when a good yarding of all classes of cattle came forward. Competition for both cow and heifer beef was -firm and values remained fully on a par with those ruling at other centres. Boner cows sold readily at late rates and a total clearance resulted. Competition for a number of Jersey yearling heifers was keen, and good sales resulted. A medium offering of sheep sold under brisk competition with values in vendors’ favour. A good yarding of dairy cattle Included a fair proportion of quality heifers. Bidding was spirited and the best sale of dairy cattle at Waihou for some time resulted. Seven heifers on aocount of Mr. W. Coombe averaged £lO 7s, with 11 heifers on account of Mr. J. J. The advertised herd on account of Mr E. Churchward came forward In good condition and commanded spirited competition from a large attendance of buyers. Medium fat cows and heifers made £9 to £9 17s Gd; light fat cows £7 5s to £7 14s, plain and killable £5 5s to £fi ss, fresh-conditioned stores £3 12s Gd to £4 15s, boners £2 5s to £3 10s; well-grown Jersey heifer calves, £5; two-year empty Jersey heifers, £4. QORDONTON CLEARANCE Messrs G. W. Vercoe* and Company, Limited, report having held a clearing sale on account of Mr T. 11. Thomson at Gordonton yesterday. There was a large attendance of buyers and the herd of 47 cows, which was submitted In good condition, was keenly competed for and averaged £lO. Sundries and Implements sold on a par with late clearing sale rates.
