MARKET PRICES RISE.
PRODUCE IN HAMILTON RECORD FIQUREB OBTAINED POTATOES UP TO £ls PER TON A substantial rise Is noticeable In the Hamilton produce prices this week, several varieties selling at the highest figures for a considerable period. A number of new lines have come on to the market and these are selling at fairly high prices. On the vegetable market, cauliflowers are very scarce, and are fetching from 12s Gd to 13s per bag. Pumpkins have reached their highest values for some years, selling from 18s to 25s 6d per cwt. However, the most amazing prices are ruling for potatoes. These are ranging in price from £l4 to £ls per ton for South Island varieties. It is many years since this top value was reached. Among the new lines this week are PIJi cucumbers and radishes, while tfew Zealand kumeras are off the market. Fruit prices remain fairly steady. Wlnesap and Ballarat apples are unprocurable, but Statesmen, Docherty, Oolden Delicious and Sturmers are forward in good supply. Quotations — Fruit —Apples: Delicious, excooler, 8s 6d to 9s per oase; Statesmen, 8s 6d to Os 6d; Docherty, 8s 6d to 9s fid; Golden Delicious, 10s 6d to lls. Oranges: Australian, 18s 6d io 23s 6d. Lemons, first grade, 14s tc 16s; others, 7s to 12s. Bananas, 20s to 23s 6d. Pears: Winter Nells, 14s to 15s; Winter Coles, 14s to 15s; cooking. 8s 6d to 9s: others, 5s to 7s. Grapefruit, 10s to lls 6d and others 8s to 10s. Vegetables—Cabbage, Savoy fis Gd to 7a 6d per sack; Drumhead, choice, 7s 6d to Bs. Cauliflowers, 12s Gd to 13s per bag. South Island potatoes, £l4 to £l4 10s per ton; Ohakune. £l4 to £ls per ton. Fiji kumeras, 19s to 20s per cwt. Swedes, 2s 9d to 3s per dozen. Australian onions, 14s to 14s 6d per owt. Spinach, Is fid to 2s 3d per dozen. Carrots, Is to Is Gd per dozen. Parsnips, 5s 6d to 6s. Beet, is per dozen. Pukekohe pumpkins, 18s to 25s 6d per cwt. Radishes, lOd to Is per dozen. Celery, 2s to Is 6d per bundle. Eggs and Fish. All varieties of fish are In short supply owing to the bad weather conditions out at sea, deep-water varieties being unprocurable. Eggs are now at. the lowest price for a considerable time, selling at is 4d per dozen. Vendors are experiencing difficulty In coping with the increased supply, although the demand is keen.
