CONFERENCE CONCLUDES ELECTION OF OFFICERS (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday The business sessions of the conference of the New Zealand Federation of School ommittees’ Associations was concluded to-day. Christchurch was selected as the venue of the next conference. Officers were elected as follows: — President, Mr R. S. H. Buchanan (Christchurch) ; senior vice-president, Mr W. 11. Fortune (Auckland) ; junior vice-president, Mr A. E. Morgan (West Coast) ; secretary and treasurer, Mr T. Nuttall (Canterbury) ; Parliamentary Committee, Messrs F. H. Porter (chairman), J. Fyfe and E. Miller (Wellington) : Canterbury executive, Messrs C. R. N. Mackie, B. BuVgess, A. E. Thompson, G. 11. Harrison, and E. Prebble; associate executive, Messrs J. N. Preen (South Canter- j bury), J. Walker (Southland), A. E. i Morgan (Westland), and Hie Rev. V. Graham* (Otago). Daylight Saving A motion to the effect that in country districts it should lie the preroga- ; tive of sciiool committees to open j school at 9.30 a.m. during the period i of daylight saving was carried. Among remits affirmed was one * urging that the size of classes be lim- ! lied to 35. It was decided that the Government be. urged to revert to Hie original system of free dental treatment and that travelling dental clinics be provided in country districts. The conference supported a remit from the West Coast lo the effect that the school leaving certificate he adopted as Hie standard of attainment for entrance lo the Public Service ami all other professions where a uni- 1 versity degree is not necessary, i c
