CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY SOUTH AUCKLAND WOMEN GAMES OF MEDIOCRE STANDARD Although conditions at St. Andrews golf links were ideal to-day and the greens were unaffected by the heavy rain yesterday, the standard of golf played in the second matches in the’ South Auckland women's open championship tournament did not reach a very high plane, and the form of the contestants in the Ellis Cup, the scratch event, was only mediocre. The second rounds of the Ellis Clup and the St. Andrew’s Handicap trophy were decided this morning and this afternoon the semi-finals were contested. A foursomes match was also played to-day. Results of the second rounds of the two leading events are as follows: ELLIS CUP Miss J. Duncan (Wanganui) beat Mrs L. Day (Hamilton), 4 and 3; Mrs F. Mander (Hamilton) beat Mrs G. Ferguson (Middlemore), 2 and 1; Mrs W. F. Ralph (Middlemore) beat Mrs W. Halligan (Te Aroha), 4 and 2; Miss D. Fleming (Christchurch) beat Miss J. Stewart (Whangarei), 7 and ST. ANDREWS HANDICAP Miss N. Beverley (Matamata) beat Miss J. Dickie (Walton), 5 and 3; Miss V. Campbell (Timaru) beat Mrs J. M. Wilson (Auckland), 2 and 1; Miss M. Campbell (Hamilton) beat Mrs G. A.
