TRIBUTES TO MR H. F. NICOLL HOLDS UNIQUE DISTINCTION ASHBURTON, Wednesday. On the completion of 31 years as president of the Ashburton Trotting Club and 16 years as president of the New Zealand Trotting Conference, Mr IL F. Nicoll last evening was tendered a complimentary dinner attended by 200 members of the club. High tributes were paid to Mr Nicoll's administrative ability and it was pointed out that he holds the unique distinction of being an honorary life member of every trotting club in the Dominion and has now’ been appointed Joint president of the Metropolitan Club. The presentation of a substantial cheque was made and in reply Mr Nicoll recalled the fact that he had never been to a trotting meeting before a date in 1906 when a deputation asked him to take charge of the club, which was then in low water. He reviewed the remarkable progress and stated that an Australasian record in stakes, £2900, for the three classic events, would be offered by the club next year.
