WOMEN’S HOCKEY TEAM. STANDARD IN AUSTRALIA. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Monday. “The standard of Australian play Is much higher than when we met them in South Africa seven years ago,” said Miss E. M. Ward, captain of the English women’s hockey team which is passing through Auckland by tbe Monterey to-day. “We are not an international team,” continued Miss Ward, explaining that they were all members of county teams and the main object of the tour was to play in the different states of Australia. “We* had a very successful tour and some excellent game's. Of 19 matches we won 13, drew two and lost four. All the matches were well fought. We thoroughly e'njoyed the whole tour. I only wish we had time to see New Zealand.”
